Tyler Robinson, 22, remains in custody in Utah as he awaits formal charges next week after being arrested in the killing of Charlie Kirk.
Robinson was taken into custody after a 33-hour manhunt. The arrest followed tips from relatives and a family friend who said Robinson had confessed or indicated involvement in the killing.
He was found at his parents’ home about 420 km from the scene of the shooting. Investigators also gathered evidence from his apartment in St. George, which is near the Arizona border.
The Utah governor has said Robinson is being held on suspicion of aggravated murder and other charges. The authorities expect the formal charges to be filed in court soon.
Charlie Kirk was shot from a rooftop during an event at Utah Valley University attended by thousands. His widow has paid tribute, and vigils have been held both in the U.S. and globally.
Investigators also recovered bullet casings near the scene. Each had messages etched into them, including references to memes, video game in-jokes, and phrases mocking those who are gay.
The case has triggered wide public outrage and intense scrutiny as many view the killing as part of growing political violence in the U.S.
